September 13, 1947 - August 3, 2014

Kenneth Patten, age 66, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on August 3, 2014, at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa.

A son of Roy and Cleo (Aldrich) Patten, Ken was born on September 13, 1947, in Lakefield, Minnesota. He attended school in Sioux Rapids, graduating in 1966.

On May 17, 1969, Ken married Lois Huffman at the United Methodist Church in Sioux Rapids. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children: Kari and Kirt.

Ken proudly served in the National Guard. He was a faithful member of the American Legion and was a Sergeant of Arms at military funerals. He also ran Bingo games for several years.

In his spare time, Ken loved to watch football, especially the Minnesota Vikings. He collected coins and enjoyed playing cards with family. Most of all, however, he valued his family. Whenever he was physically able to, he was sure to attend his grandchildren’s activities. Ken will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lois Patten, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; his children: Kari (Joe) Etherington, of Webb, Iowa; Kirt (Michelle) Patten, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; his grandchildren: Ryan, Brady, and Kayli Etherington of Webb, Iowa, and Brandon and Austin Patten, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; his brothers: Maynard (Donna) Patten, of Webb, Iowa, Larry (Marsha) Patten, of Graettinger, Iowa, and Don (Sharon) Patten, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; and his sister, Myrt (Marion) Blasdel, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Mary.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Webb, Iowa. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids with the family present the entire time. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
