On November 11, 1942, Doris married Philip M. Pitzen at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church in Varina. In due course, they were blessed with three children: Mary, Joseph, and Philip.
Following their wedding while Phil was in the service, they resided in Colorado. Later, they moved to Clinton, Iowa. Then, in 1945, they moved to Pocahontas. For the next 49 years, Doris and Phil resided on their farm between Newell and Storm Lake where they farmed and raised their family. The next ten years after they retired, they spent at their condominium in Storm Lake.

In her spare time, Doris liked to dance, bake, and help out on the farm. Always ready to play cards, she belonged to several bridge clubs over the years. She and Phil travelled extensively throughout their lives. Indeed, they enjoyed many European and Alaskan trips. Doris valued her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
