Milton G. Caboth
September 14, 1936 - April 26, 2014

Alta

Milton G. Caboth, age 77, of Alta, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center of Storm Lake.

Milton Gene Caboth was born on September 14, 1936, to Christian and Henrietta (Suling) Caboth in Aurelia, Iowa. In 1954, he graduated from Alta High School. On October 13, 1957, he married Darlene Fahr at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, Mark and Michelle, and, in due course, with six grandchildren.

Milt began working at Rystad Hardware in Alta, Iowa, before he started his own business, Milt’s Service Center, in 1974. He enjoyed working hard and knowing all of the people he met throughout his career. It’s been said, “if you enjoy what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Milt was a perfect example of this adage. In 2008, he retired gradually.

Milton enjoyed summer vacations and fishing at the lake with his children and grandchildren, taking trips with friends to Arizona, golfing, playing cards as well as dart ball, bowling, and keeping up with his children and grandchildren and all of their activities. Actively involved at St. Paul Lutheran Church, he served on many boards. He also served in the National Guard for a few years.

Milt was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Floyd and Martha Fahr; his brothers-in-law, Wayne Langner, Jack Kendall, and Rev. Duane Fahr; and his sister-in-law, Kathy Fahr.

Milton is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Darlene Caboth, of Alta, Iowa; his children, Mark (Pam) Caboth, of Estherville, Iowa, and Michelle (Byron) Swanson, of Aurelia, Iowa; his grandchildren, Christy Caboth, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Caleb Caboth, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Curtis Caboth, and his fiancée, Amanda Fernau, of Estherville, Iowa, Amanda Swanson, and her fiancé, Austin Stuhr, and Matthew and Michael Swanson, all of Aurelia, Iowa; one brother, Donald (Sally) Caboth, of Alta, Iowa; his sisters-in-law, Loretta Kendall, Ardiss (Bob) Galvin, and Julie Fahr; and his brother-in-law, Loren (Betty) Fahr; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends too numerous to mention.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at 10:30 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Alta with the Rev. Craig A. Cummins officiating. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery of Alta. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta.
