Tory M. Johannsen
April 10, 1970 - December 20, 2013
Storm Lake, Iowa

Tory M. Johannsen, age 43, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on December 20, 2013, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake from a sudden heart attack.

Tory Michael Johannsen was born on April 10, 1970, in Ida Grove, Iowa, the son of Roger L. and Edna Mae (Kastner) Johannsen. Baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa, on May 24, 1970, and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt, Iowa, on April 15, 1984, he attended school at Odebolt Arthur Community School, graduating with the class of 1988. Following high school, he attended Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa, graduating in 1991.

While working for IBP as a hog buyer, Troy met the love of his life, Joni Franzmeier, who at the time was working in the Storm Lake IBP office. On August 8, 1992, he married her at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. They were blessed with four children: Chandler, Chance, Berkley, and Brogan.

A member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, Tory also belonged to Pheasants Forever and the Iowa Pork Producers Association.

An irreplaceable part of the Nutra Tech family for more than fifteen years, Tory left an unforgettable mark on the company. A valuable business partner, a loyal employee, and most of all, a treasured friend, he looked out for the underdog, always going to bat for others during difficult times. The gap he leaves in their hearts will never be filled.

Troy valued his family, especially his wife, Joni, his best friend and number one supporter. Spending time with their children meant the world to him. He thoroughly enjoyed attending their activities as their number one fan. An avid Iowa State fan, he, also, enjoyed attending football games with his daughter, Chandler. In addition, he loved the outdoors, especially, hunting and snowmobiling with his son, Chance. He could fix anything and loved spending time in his shop where he often heard little giggles from his two littler helpers, Berkley and Brogan. When landscaping, a favorite pastime, he treasured having his entire family around to help. A devoted husband, a loving father, a dedicated son, a fun-loving uncle, and a friend, he will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Joni Johannsen, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his four children: Chandler, Chance, Berkley and Brogan, all of Storm Lake, Iowa; his parents, Roger and Edna Mae Johannsen, of Ida Grove, Iowa; his sisters: Terri (Kevin) Carstensen, of Odebolt, Iowa, Trudi (Mark) Gronemeyer, of Wichita, Kansas, and Trenda (Bob) Magee, of Helena, Montana; his brother-in-law, Michael (Beth) Franzmeier, of Rembrandt, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Lori (Curt) Apgar, of Washington, Illinois; his parents-in-law, Myron and Dorothy Franzmeier, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his nieces and nephews: Distie (Seth) Profit, of London, England, Charise (Rory) Flynn, of San Francisco, California, Durel (Kasey Jo) Carstensen, of Arvada, Colorado, Kari Gronemeyer, of Boston, Massachusetts, Pat Gronemeyer, of Wichita, Kansas, Cole and Emersyn Franzmeier, of Rembrandt, Iowa, and Jack and Steven Apgar, of Washington, Illinois; and his great nephews: Peyton and Zachary Profit, of London, England, and Conley and Devon Carstensen, of Arvada, Colorado; as well as extended family members and many friends.
