Norene Martin, age 76, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.
Norene Marie Ripke was born on July 12, 1937, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Maria (Gerke) Ripke. Baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake on July 25, 1937, she was later confirmed there in 1951.
Growing up, Norene attended Zion Lutheran School in rural Storm Lake where she graduated in 1951. She, then, continued her education at Albert City High School, graduating with the class of 1955.
On December 9, 1956, Norene married Marion Eugene Martin in Storm Lake, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Brenda, Denise, and Brian.
A member of Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Norene served on the Ladies Aid. She also belonged to the Friendly Neighbors Club and the Albert City Garden Club as well as numerous card clubs.
A farm wife for several years, Norene enjoyed helping her husband with chores and raising her children. Later, she worked outside the home at the Newell Good Samaritan Center as a housekeeper and cook.
Norene loved to travel out West as well as to Branson to see all the shows. In her spare time, she enjoyed attending her granddaughter, Angela’s, band and orchestra concerts and going to her grandson, Justin’s, football and track meets. She valued the members of her family, and she treasured the time she was able to spend with them. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Brenda (Mick) Koeppe, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Brian (Sandy) Martin, also of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Angela (Ryan) Weitzel, of Sac City, Iowa, and Justin (Jennifer) Koeppe, of Ankeny, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Colin and Spencer Koeppe, of Ankeny, Iowa, and Micah Weitzel, of Sac City, Iowa; her brother, Melvin (Judy) Ripke, of Rembrandt, Iowa; her brothers and sisters-in-law: Dale (Joan) Martin, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Gilbert (Joan) Phillips, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Gerald (Elaine) Carlson, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and her sister-in-law, Joyce Hoskins, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; as well as extended family and many friends.
Norene was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Maria Ripke; her husband, Marion Martin; her daughter, Denise Martin; and her mother- and father-in-law, Wayne and Edna Martin.
Visitation: 2:00-4:00 p.m., December 15, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., December 16, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
