Verna Belle Bellows, age 85, of Albert City, formerly of Newell, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa.

Verna Belle Neitzel was born on October 10, 1928, near Newell, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Hattie (Beckfield) Neitzel. She attended country school and graduated from Newell High School in 1946. On June 12, 1949, she married Carl Bellows at Varina. They, then, settled on the family farm near Newell where they farmed and raised their family. Indeed, they lived their entire married life on the farm until December of 2012 when Verna Belle moved to the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

A member of the United Methodist Churches in Newell and Varina, Verna Belle taught Sunday school for many years and served as secretary in Newell as well. In addition, she actively participated with the United Methodist Women both locally and at the district level. A member of the NCN Club, the Rebecca Lodge, the Women's Relief Core, and the American Legion Auxiliary, she also served as a Cub Scout Leader and as a poll worker. She loved to attend and follow her grandchildren's activities. She and Carl were longtime members of the Albert City Threshermen's Association, which honored them in 2013 as Grand Marshals. For many years during Threshermen's Days, Verna Belle spent her time at the school house providing information to the visitors.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Bellows, of Newell; her daughter, Nancy Frederiksen, of Des Moines; her son, Bob (Janet) Bellows, of Pocahontas; six grandchildren, Jon Bellows; Shawn, Scott, and Jodi Frederiksen; Karla Niederkofler; and Kayleen Tometich; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation: Monday November 25, 2013, 5:00-7:00 PM at the United Methodist Church, Varina, Iowa.
Funeral: Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church, Varina, Iowa.
Interment: Tuesday, Newell Cemetery, Newell, Iowa.
