Laura Lee Witte, age 78, of Schaller, Iowa, died on Sunday, November 10, 2013, at the Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa.

Laura Lee was born on June 15, 1935, in Iowa City, Iowa. At the age of six months, Laura and her twin brother, Lloyd, were welcomed into the loving home of Carl and Serena (Rusch) Weiland through the gift of adoption.

Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, she attended grade school at Hanover Parochial through the eighth grade and then went on to Alta High School for her freshman and sophomore years before transferring to Galva High School for her junior and senior year. She graduated in 1953. While attending Galva High School, she played on the state basketball team.

On August 5, 1956, Laura married Emmett A. Witte at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galva. They were blessed with two daughters, Karla Lee and Karen Ranee.

A voting member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Schaller, she also belonged to the Cook Merry Gardeners and the Alta Country Club.

Laura worked as a bookkeeper for many years before staying home and raising her daughters and helping with the farming operation.

In her spare time, Laura liked playing cards and games with dice as well as golfing with her husband, Emmett, and their friends. She also enjoyed watching her children’s and grandchildren’s high school activities.

A dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, Laura treasured spending time with family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of fifty-seven years, Emmett Witte, of Schaller, Iowa; her daughters, Karla (Randy) Hustedt, of Galva, Iowa, and Karen (Rich) Malcom, of Schaller, Iowa; her grandchildren: Chad (Jennifer), Dana, Joel (Jordan), and Keith (Cori) Hustedt; and Marcus (Khara) and Jenna Malcom; her great granddaughters, Eve and Paisley Hustedt and Paige Malcom; her twin brother, Lloyd (Myrna) Weiland, of Johnston, Iowa; her brothers-in-law, George (Jan) Witte, of Schaller, Iowa, and Don (Wilma) Witte, of Bentonville, Arkansas; her sisters-in-law, Esther Patterson, of Britton, South Dakota, and Joyce Witte, of Sac City, Iowa; her half-brother, Doug (Nancy) Keifer, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and her half-sisters, Judy (Duane) Judisch, also of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Sue (Wyatt) Reynolds, of Norman, Oklahoma; as well as extended family members and many friends.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Serena Weiland; her birth mother, Velma Keifer; her brothers-in-law, Clarence, Roy, Burdette, Robert, Edward, and Lee Witte; her sisters-in-law, Hattie Teghtmeyer and Irene Carstensen.

Visitation: 5:00-8:00 p.m., November 12, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., November 13, 2013, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Schaller, Iowa.
Interment: November 13, 2013, at the Schaller Cemetery in Schaller, Iowa.
