Surrounded by her family, Janette M. Meyer, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Janette Marie Madsen was born on July 25, 1934, in Emmet County, Iowa, a daughter of Clarence and Emma (Andersen) Madsen. Growing up, she attended elementary and high school in Ringsted, Iowa, where she graduated in 1953. She, then, furthered her education in Des Moines at the La James College of Cosmetology.
On April 2, 1956, Janette married Donald E. Meyer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mallard, Iowa. They were blessed with four children: Bryan, Dennis “Zeke,” Pam, and Jim.
Janette later became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake where she participated in the Guild and Catholic Daughters of America. She also joined the firemen’s wives group, the Ladies Sparklers.
Janette held several jobs outside the home, but she enjoyed tending to the needs of her family the most. She liked wood working with her husband Don, playing cards and other games with her grandchildren, and doing many crafts. She, however, especially enjoyed her great grandchildren, Trevor and Brooke, with whom she loved spending her Friday lunch time. They held a special place in Great Nana’s heart. In short, she treasured the time she was able to spend with family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Bryan (Joanne) Meyer, of Whittemore, Iowa, Dennis “Zeke” (Stacy) Meyer, of Rembrandt, Iowa, Pam (Marty) Winebrinner, of Jefferson, South Dakota, and Jim (Tracy) Meyer, of Sioux City, Iowa; her grandchildren: Megan (Alex) Lenz; Angela, Bobbi (special friend, Sean Sullivan), Brittany, Chris (Jessica), Holly, Nicholas, and Tanya Meyer; Nicole Olney (special friend, Bret Hamilton); and Brandie (Dustin) Wenham; her great grandchildren, Trevor and Brooke Meyer; her sister, Carol Sheehan, of Des Moines, Iowa; and her brothers-in-law, Arnold Jensen, of Ringsted, Iowa, and Richard Meyer, of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as nieces; nephews; extended family members; and many close friends.
Janette was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Emma Madsen; her parents-in-law, Edward and Blanche Meyer; her husband, Donald Meyer, who died on October 11, 2013; two infant brothers; three sisters: Lois Jensen; Janice Sutton, (Janette’s twin sister), and Shirley Thompson.
Visitation: 5:00-8:00 p.m., November 11, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., November 12, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
