Anna Sophia Benson
April 4, 1882 - May 8, 1956

Anna Sophia Benson, the daughter of Sven and Johanna Carlson, was born at Tvaaka, Halland, Sweden, on April 4, 1882. She passed away from this life on May 8, 1956, at the age of 74 years, 1 month and 4 days.

Mrs. Benson was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in her native Sweden. On November 11, 1906, she married Berger Benson. If she had lived until this fall, she and Mr. Benson would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Upon immigrating to the United States on May 11, 1913, Mrs. Benson came directly to Alta, Iowa. She lived in and around this community for forty-three years. Mr. and Mrs. Benson moved to town in 1939.

Mrs. Benson had been in failing health the last few years. On April 18th, she entered Alta Memorial Hospital where she left this world. Mrs. Benson was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ as her Saviour and was looking forward to heaven.

A very happy woman in spite of her many afflictions, Mrs. Benson showed intense interest in her children and grandchildren and her home. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, John; and one grandson, Donald Niemeier. Surviving her are her husband, Berger; two sons, Oscar, of Alta, and Donald, of Minneapolis; five daughters, Bertha Axelson and Millie Grienke, of Alta, Geneva Martin, of Wilmington, California, Sylvia Stoner, of Peterson, and Frances Niemeier, of Holstein; two brothers and three sisters in Sweden; fifteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews besides many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 10, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Oberg officiating. Burial was in the Scandinavian Cemetery under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Ed Gustafson, Ed Johnson, Gust A. Johnson, Carl Berquist, Carl S. Larson, and Ernest S. Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Kindwall and Mrs. Ernest S. Johnson took charge of the flowers. Music for the funeral was sung by Mrs. Paul Koepsell and Mrs. Raymond Anderson with Mrs. Carl Turnquist as accompanist.
