Elizabeth “Bettie” Bjorklund
March 27, 1938- April 29, 2013

Elizabeth “Bettie” Bjorklund, age 75, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Monday, April 29, 2013, at her home in Albert City.

Elizabeth “Bettie” Ann Witham, the daughter of Ralph and Agnes (Pfeffer) Witham, was born in Algona, Iowa, on March 27, 1938. She lived her youth in the Algona and Mallard communities. In 1955, she graduated from Mallard High School.

Bettie married Darreld Bjorklund on June 23, 1956, at the Presbyterian Church in Fonda, Iowa. This union was blessed with eight children: Dan, Randy, Rhonda, DeWayne, Kim, James, Mindy, and Tina. For the first few years following their marriage, Bettie and Darreld farmed near Pocahontas, Iowa. Nonetheless, they spent the majority of their married life in Storm Lake, Iowa. In 1998, however, they moved to Albert City where they had resided since.

A member of the United Pentecostal Church in Marathon, Iowa, Bettie taught Sunday and regularly attended the weekly ladies Bible Study. She had a deep and abiding faith and spent time daily meditating on God’s Word.

An accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed making clothes for her family. In addition, she liked spending time outdoors gardening and going fishing. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren, however, were the pride and joy of her life.

Those left to love and celebrate her life include her husband of fifty-six years, Darreld, of Albert City, Iowa; her children, Dan (Jane) Bjorklund, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Randy Bjorklund, of Albert City, Rhonda Ralston and Brad Meier, of Palmer, Iowa, Kim and Rich Jarvis, of Albert City, Iowa, James and Becky Bjorklund of Spencer, Iowa, and Mindy Blomgren and Mike Hackbarth, of Spencer, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren: Sarah Saffold, Mark (Jill) Bjorklund, Aaron Jorgenson, Crystal Bjorklund, Brandon Bjorklund, Amy (Bill) Cooper, Melissa (Jeremy) Riesenberg, Tiffani and Tony, Tyler and Felicia, Amanda and Bobby, Dustin and Amber, Brandon Lee Bjorklund, Paige Bjorklund, Damien Bjorklund, Christina (Tim) Richard, Chelsey Blomgren, and Madison Blomgren; twenty-four great grandchildren; her brother, Bob (Gina) Witham, of LuVerne, Iowa; and her two sisters: Gerrie (Daryl) Gaedke of LuVerne, Iowa, and Linda Lang of Clarksgrove, Minnesota; as well as nieces; nephews; other extended family members; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two children: DeWayne and Tina; and one brother, Dick.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the United Pentecostal Church in Marathon. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
