Doris Elaine Ostermann was born on May 19, 1925, to George and Amalia (Wassman) Ostermann in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, she also attended Zion Lutheran Christian Day School and completed two years of high school in Ocheyedan. After graduating from Concordia High School in Seward, Nebraska, she continued her education at Concordia Teacher's College in Seward. In 1945, she began teaching in the lower elementary grades at Zion Lutheran Day School, rural Storm Lake, Iowa. She taught there for four years.

On June 13, 1948, she married Lorenz (Bud) Boettcher. They made their first home in Marathon, Iowa, before moving to Grant Township where they lived and farmed for forty-five years. On that farm, they raised their three children, Joan, Jeffrey, and Karla. In 1996, they moved to Alta, Iowa.

Lifelong active members of Zion Lutheran Church, rural Storm Lake, Iowa, Bud and Doris, were married nearly sixty-five years. A homemaker, teacher, and an accomplished seamstress, Doris enjoyed music and reading. She dearly loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Muriel, Erma, and Norma Jean (Charles) Roth; her brothers, Dennis (Shirley) and Robert Ostermann; and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Ostermann.

Doris is survived by her husband, Bud, of Alta, Iowa; her daughters, Joan Kersten, of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Karla (Rob) Lyngstad, of Fargo, North Dakota; her son, Jeffrey (Judy) Boettcher, of Storm Lake, Iowa; ten grandchildren: Amy (Gedney) Riley, Jason (Kim) Kersten, Ryan (Justine) Kersten, Jeni (Aaron) Crowder, Jessica (Anthony) Stong, Abigail (Jeremy) Davis, Emily (Rob) Ellefson, Addalyn Boettcher, Katie (Joshua) Johnson, and John (Alexandra) Lyngstad; ten great-grandchildren: Emma Riley; Dane, Presley, Beck, and Deacon Kersten; Liam Stong; Landry and Milloy Davis; Brady and Beckett Johnson; and her brothers, Wallace, Vernon (Vi), Paul (Joan), and Mervin (Roz) Ostermann; and her sisters-in-law, Eileen Ostermann and Glenda Kamrath; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
