Carl Brown
July 9, 1931 - April 11, 2013

Carl Louis Brown, the son of Allan and Della Brown, was born on July 9, 1931, in Carroll, the second oldest of twelve children. He attended Jasper #9 country school through the eighth grade before transferring to Lohrville High School where he graduated in 1949. Then, he attended Iowa State University for two years.

Carl married Lois Ellen Johnson on February 21, 1951, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pomeroy. In March of 1951, he started farming the J. E. Wilson farm near Marathon. He also farmed the Ed Sundholm farm near Marathon for twenty-eight years. In 1982, he and Lois moved to Laurens. Carl continued to farm. In addition, he drove a school bus for the Laurens-Marathon school for twenty-five years, an occupation which he very much enjoyed. During this time, he also sold insurance for Midland National Life. He had a passion for fishing, hunting, and traveling. Indeed, he and Lois traveled extensively in all 50 states and overseas.

Carl passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allan and Della Brown; two brothers, Harold Gene (in infancy) and Earl Brown, of Lohrville; one sister, Nina Wiese, of Denison; and one infant granddaughter, Paige Marie George.

Those left to cherish his memory include Lois, his wife of sixty years; five daughters: Jane (Wayne) Larson, of Storm Lake, Judy (Darrell) Fox, of Spencer, Nancy (John) Johnson, of Lake Mills, Nita (Evan) George, of Sioux City, and Carla Dornsbach, of Divide, Colorado; sixteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters: Ruth Davidson, of Prole, Faye (Don) Root, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Rita Nesbett, of Claremore, Oklahoma, Beth (Cliff) Coxbell, of Okeechobee, Florida, and Neva (Bill) Campbell, of Prescott, Arizona; and four brothers: Gary (Betsy) and Paul (Sally) Brown, of Churdan, Dean (Sherrie) Brown, of Rockland, California, and Lloyd (Sue), of Nevada; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, April 22, 2013, at the Laurens United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Poland Township Cemetery, Marathon.
