Hugh F. Roberts, age 78, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and formerly of Linn Grove, Iowa, died on March 30, 2013, at the New Aldaya Nursing Home in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Hugh Francis Roberts, the son of Hugh E. and Mildred (Powell) Roberts, was born in Linn Grove, Iowa, on December 22, 1934. He spent his youth in the Linn Grove community and graduated from Linn Grove High School. He continued his education at and graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

On June 25, 1955, Hugh married Carol Ann Mutchler in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They were blessed with five children: Hugh John, Mary, Mark, David, and James. Following his education, Hugh and Carol returned to Linn Grove where they farmed throughout their married lifetime. Hugh retired from active farming in the fall of 1991, and Carol died on February 23, 2006. Hugh resided at the Sioux Care Center from August, 2011, until September, 2012, when he moved to Cedar Falls and made his home at the New Aldaya Nursing Home.

Hugh was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids. He had a great love and passion for building and flying airplanes. In addition, he had a gifted ability to build or fix almost anything. He also enjoyed spending time with his many friends drinking coffee.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Hugh John Roberts, of Cudahy, Wisconsin, Mary Mattison, of Littleton, Colorado, Mark (Lori) Roberts, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, David Roberts, of Seaside, Oregon, and James (Jeannie) Roberts, of Boynton Beach, Florida; his grandchildren: Rebecca (Eric) Paradis, Melissa Syndergaard, Sara (Dave) Rue, and Kevin, Phillip, Zachary, Jordan, Alexander, Joshua, Nicholas, Sarah, Sophia, and Max Roberts; and four great grandchildren: Jorden and Ella Rue and Greta and Quinn Paradis; as well as other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Carol.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Burial will be in the Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove. Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 4, 2013, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
