Lola L. Radke
October 4, 1919 - April 4, 2013Alta
Lola Lucille (Huseman) Radke, age 95, was born on October 4, 1919, at rural Alta, Iowa, to William and Ida (Oatman) Huseman.
Baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith, Lola attended grade school in Schaller and later graduated from Alta High School. She married Orville Radke on February 4, 1940, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hanover, where they attended church for many years. They also raised a family and farmed in the Hanover area before retiring in 1981 and moving into Alta. At that time they, became members of St. Paul’s Church in Alta. Lola and Orville were married for sixty-seven years.
Very active her entire life, Lola loved to travel. Indeed, she visited Las Vegas for twenty consecutive years. Moreover, she and Orville traveled to Hawaii and many other states visiting friends and relatives along the way.
An avid card player, Lola played to win. She would play cards with anyone but especially loved playing against her children and grandchildren. At the end of a game, she always had a certain smile that let you know she had won.
Lucky, independent, opinionated, spirited, loving, fair, fun, pretty, neat, always a lady and a true friend, Lola will be remembered for her awesome home cooked meals, smiles, delicious pies, baby geese, and hard work.
She loved attending her grandchildren’s activities as her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her greatest love. Even to the end, she could identify and name each of them. “Grandma Lola” will be deeply missed by all of us.
After a brief illness, Lola passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Sunset Knoll in Aurelia, Iowa, at the age of ninety-three years and six months.
