Timothy E. Pierce
April 20, 1948 - March 22, 2013Storm Lake, Iowa
Timothy Edwin Pierce, 64, of Storm Lake, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013, at his home in Oro Valley, Arizona, of lung cancer.
Tim was born in Storm Lake on April 20, 1948. He attended Storm Lake High School and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Iowa. As a very active lifelong resident of Storm Lake, he participated in several community organizations, including serving as president and member of the board of directors of the Storm Lake Area Development Corporation and chief fundraiser for the corporation’s special business recruitment projects in the 1980s. He was co-chair of the Buena Vista University Community Campaign and a charter member and president of the Lake Creek Country Club. He also served as a board member of the University of Iowa National I-Club. In 2010, he was appointed to the Buena Vista University Board of Trustees.
Tim started his career in the insurance business in 1971 as a partner in Stille & Pierce (later Stille Pierce & Pertzborn), an independent insurance agency in Storm Lake. In 1984, he and his partners co-founded the Insurance Associates of Spencer.
When Tim was not working, he enjoyed playing golf, cheering on the Hawkeyes, and spending time with friends and family both in Storm Lake and in Oro Valley, Arizona. Affectionately known as “Big Papi” by close family, Tim always had a lasting effect on those he met. He cared deeply for his family, friends, and his SP&P family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Tim’s memory be made to Buena Vista University or the University of Iowa Athletic Department.
Tim is survived by his wife, Laura; his daughter, Martha Davis, and her husband, Eric, of Tucson, Arizona; his son, Michael R. Pierce, and his fiancée, Krissi Rosenberger, of Ankeny; his granddaughter, Grace Davis; his parents, Keith and Virginia Pierce, of Storm Lake; his brothers, Jeffrey Pierce, of Des Moines, and Michael K. Pierce, and his wife, Margaret, of Houston, Texas; his nieces and nephews: Allison (Kevin) Pinkowski, Ryan (Heather) Pierce, Kathryn Pierce, and Timothy M.
