Edna Petzoldt, age 84, of Newell, Iowa, died on March 18, 2013, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell.
Edna Sylvia Sorensen was born on February 15, 1929, on a farm near Rockville, Nebraska, the daughter of Jens and Eva (Jackson) Sorensen.
Growing up, she attended school in Dannebrog, Nebraska, graduating from Dannebrog High School.
On April 11, 1948, Edna married Lenard Petzoldt at the Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. Their union was blessed with four children: Chuck, Judy, Jim, and Rick. The family moved to Newell in November of 1950.
A faithful member of the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, Edna also took part in the Ladies Aid Society. Very active in the community, she belonged to the Newell Country Club, the Sunday Bridge Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Young Mothers Club as an honorary member.
In her spare time, Edna enjoyed golfing and reading. She will be fondly remembered for her baking and cooking. She treasured her family and enjoyed spending time with them and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Chuck (Marty) Petzoldt, of Mason City, Iowa, Judy (Ron) Olson, of Winnebago, Minnesota, Jim (Roni) Petzoldt, of Sioux City, Iowa, and Rick (Cindy) Petzoldt, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; her grandchildren: Kelli (Eric) Flaherty, Jill Weis, and friend, Tim Robinson, Amber (Brett) Bartel, Sarah Olson, Beth (Jason) Weiland, Reid (Sheryl) Olson, James (Holly) Petzoldt, Jason Petzoldt, and friend, Jodi Rembe, and Bill (Carissa) Kemmis; twenty-three great grandchildren; and her sister, Betty (Harold) Schuessler, of Grand Island, Nebraska; as well as extended family members and many friends.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lenard, in 2008; her sister, Nora Swanson; her granddaughter, Bobbi Kemmis; her parents-in-law, John and Marie Petzoldt.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m., March 20, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 1:30 p.m., March 21, 2013, at the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa.
