October 11, 1941 - February 2, 2013

Donald Skelton, age 71, of Rochester, Minnesota, and formerly of Linn Grove and Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died peacefully on February 2, 2013, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Donald Ray Skelton was born on October 11, 1941, to Raymond and Dorothy (Stephenson) Skelton in Spencer, Iowa. He grew up in the Linn Grove and Sioux Rapids areas before his family relocated to Minnesota when he was a teenager. Donald attended Albert Lea High School, graduating in 1961. In his youth, Donald enjoyed many sports especially baseball. He also earned recognition as a Golden Glove Boxer.

On January 5, 1963, Donald married Jolene Laskewitz, with whom he was blessed with two children, Michael and Mark.

Donald was a truck driver for various trucking companies in the Rochester area. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching sports and spending time with family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Michael (Melissa) and Mark Skelton, all of Hutchinson, Minnesota; his grandchildren: Hannah and Derek Skelton and Bailey Skelton-Mateo; his mother, Dorothy Skelton, of Kalispell, Montana; his brother, Dale Skelton, of Atlanta, Georgia; and his sisters: Margaret (Charles) Green, of Kalispell, Montana, Jan (Larry) Brazda, of Lakeside, Montana, and Jean (Lee) Peterson, of Cresco, Iowa; as well as nieces; nephews; extended family; and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Skelton, in 1990; his grandparents, Floyd and Grace Skelton, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Minnie Stephenson, of Marathon, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sliefert-Smith Funeral Home in Webb, Iowa. Burial will be in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon. Visitation will take place on Friday, February 8, 2013, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert-Smith Funeral Home in Webb. The Sliefert-Smith Funeral Home in Webb is in charge of the arrangements.
