ARLENE M. (KRACHT) BROWN, 88, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013 after battling cancer for thirty years.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013 at St. John's Church of Christ, rural Peterson, Iowa. Dave Orthmann will officiate. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the Church on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Arlene was born June 14, 1924 in Peterson, Iowa to George and Lulu (Tigges) Kracht. She attended school in Peterson and graduated from Brooke High School in 1942. She was married to Ralph C. Brown on November 20, 1944 at St. John's Church of Christ While Ralph was in the Navy, the couple lived in San Diego, CA. They then moved to St. Louis while Ralph was in Mortuary School. After he graduated, they moved to LeMars and then to Cherokee. Arlene was a member of St. John's Church of Christ at Peterson, Iowa. She was active in Ladies Guild, was past state president of Degree of Honor, volunteered at Country Side Estates and the Sanford Museum. She loved her flowers, feeding the birds, and sending cards. Her greatest joy was watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. Arlene and Ralph rarely missed any school, scout, or musical program the kids were in. She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting and singing. A lot of her friends remember her cinnamons rolls and caramel corn. For the last four years, she had been a resident of the Countryside Estates and enjoyed her friends there.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph on July 7, 2008, a daughter Beverly Brown in infancy, a grandson Shawn Brown, two sisters Marjorie Murphy and Janet Hoover, one brother Robert Kracht, one sister-in-law Bunny Kracht, three brothers-in-law Calvin Christensen, Robert Hoover Ed Murphy and Bruce Saunders.

She is survived by her four children; Rodney (Marci) Brown of Cherokee, Iowa; Peggy (Fred) Jaminet of Cherokee, Iowa;, Iowa; Greg (Cheri) Brown of Peterson, Iowa; Jeff (Patty) Brown of Cherokee, Iowa; 8 grandchildren: Terry (Patricia) Woltman, Hillary (Luke) Anderson, Mindi Sollom, Ryan Brown, Shane (Carey) Brown, Lacy (Jim) Healy, Chad (Jillian) Brown; 12 great grandchildren: Pato, Evan & Mariana Woltman, Rianne & Noah Anderson, Ella & Olivia Sollom, Josie & Lily Brown, Calvin, Amelia & Hayden Brown; three sisters and two brothers: Luella (Jim) Reed, Jean Saunders, Erma Christensen, Herb (Iva May) Kracht, Ronald Kracht, many nieces and nephews.
