Obituary: Helen Peterson
Helen Dorothy Peterson, 75, Sioux Rapids, died Friday, Nov. 8, 1996, in Sioux Rapids.
Funeral services will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at First United Church in Sioux Rapids with the Rev. Harold Koughn officiating. Burial will be at Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids.
Pallbearers will be Steve Gual, Glen Peterson, Mike Wilbur, Mike Harris, Clyde Wandrey and Tom Wilbur.
Helen Dorothy Peterson was born on April 15, 1921, near Webb, the daughter of Horace and Flossie (Blair) Wilbur. After her mother’s death in 1927, she lived with an aunt and uncle (Edgar and Viola Johnson) in Linn Grove. She graduated from Linn Grove High School in 1938. During and after World War II, she worked for the U. S. Maintenance Commission in Washington D.C., and Chicago.
On April 9, 1955, she married Thomas M. Peterson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They had one son, James.
Mrs. Peterson worked at Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. for 16 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of First United Church in Sioux Rapids, American Legion Auxiliary and the Little Sioux Golf Club.
She is survived by her son, James Peterson of Apple Valley, Minn.; one brother Orval Wilbur and his wife Delma, of Alta; a sister Jane, and her husband, Robert Kluth, of Lincoln, Neb.; a brother-in-law, George Peterson, of Sioux Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Jean Griswold of Savanna, Ill., and Mildred Campbell of Sacramento, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Elma Wolfe.
