Lois M. Sahl
October 21, 1931 ~ August 1, 2019Lois was born to Oscar and Helen (Johannsen) Harder in Battle Creek, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church there, she graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1950 and the Lutheran School of Nursing in 1953. Also in 1953, she married Emmett Sahl and subsequently raised three children: David, Linda, and Lisa. They farmed in the Battle Creek area while Lois worked as a RN at the Hartley Memorial Hospital before becoming Director of Nursing at the Willowdale Nursing Home. After retiring from nursing in 1987, she moved to Storm Lake in 1997 to spend more time with her daughter and grandson. She, readily, joined the book club and held office in the garden club for many years.
An active member at St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Battle Creek, she taught Sunday School and served in various capacities in the church before transferring to St. John's in Storm Lake where she joined the Ladies Aide and Circle. Moreover, finding history interesting, she, extensively, researched and documented the history of Battle Creek as well as that of her own family.
Providing many words of wisdom, Lois played a positive role in the lives of her children and grandchildren. In addition, she lived to see the addition of a great-grandson to the family tree. We all will miss her great smile and sense of humor, lively and informed conversations, and deeply loving and caring support. Lois's work here is now done. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, dancing, gardening, reading, and taking photographs to her heart's content. She will be reunited with family and friends and music, with laughter and love guaranteed. Mom, as you would say, "That was a good job done!”
Lois was preceded in death by her parents. Her life will be remembered and the memories cherished by son, David Sahl, of Indian Wells, California; her daughters, Linda (Dave) Merklein, of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, and Lisa (Paul Grieme) Goodman, of Alta, Iowa; her grandchildren: Erin Merklein, Dalton Goodman, and Grayson Goodman; and two sisters, Kay (Dale) Reese, of Denison, Iowa, and Pat (Duane) Sharp, of Longmont, Colorado; as well as by many nieces and nephews and their children and many dear friends.
Lois M. Sahl passed to eternal rest with Our Heavenly Father on August 1, 2019, at her home in Storm Lake at age 87. Funeral service will be held Friday, August 9, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are also invited to the church fellowship hall for a coffee reception and a time of remembrance immediately following the service. A private family burial is planned.
