Florence was born to John and Thelma (Amsden) Green on August 2nd, 1932, on a farm near Rockwell City. Then, in 1936, her family moved to Lohrville. There, she attended country school through the 7th grade before transferring to Lohrville Consolidated where she graduated in 1950. From there, Florence went on to attend Iowa State Teacher’s College for two years, earning an elementary teaching certificate. She, later, completed an MBA at Buena Vista University in 1964 and a MA at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, in 1968. On June 7th, 1953, she married William Charles Buehler. They, happily, began life on the farm southwest of Storm Lake where they lived for the next sixty-two years.
Florence taught first graders for forty-three years before retiring in 1995. She felt privileged to have taught approximately 1,000 first graders by the time she retired always calling them “my kids”.

In addition, they traveled to many countries including Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, England, Ireland, Wales, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Moorea, and Rangoiroa as well as to many islands in the Caribbean, New Zealand, and Australia. After they retired, they took many trips throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. A member of the Storm Lake Methodist Church, she, also, belonged to PEO Chapter NM.
Florence is survived by her in-laws, Dale and Karen Buehler, of West Des Moines, Iowa, Mary (Melvin) Walton, of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Florence Desmond, of Pomona, California; as well as by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, neighbors, and friends.
