Elaine Marie Reese
June 11, 1925 - May 15, 2019

Elaine Marie Reese, age 93, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away, expectedly unexpected [sic] on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

Elaine Marie Weimer, the eldest child of Roy and Blanche (Woodall) Weimer, was born on June 11, 1925, in Sibley, Iowa. Subsequently, the family lived in Milbank, South Dakota, where Elaine attended grade school and then in Hartley, Iowa, where she graduated from high school in 1943. Next, she answered the call to assist with the World War II efforts by getting on a train with her girlfriend and heading for Washington, DC. Hired by the FBI, she worked for two years as a fingerprint technician. After returning to Iowa, she landed in Storm Lake where her parents and sister, Bette, had moved. Elaine, then, attended Buena Vista College for two years.

Shortly thereafter, Elaine met and dated Jim Reese, whom she married on June 22,1947, at the Storm Lake, Methodist Church. They raised three children in the family home they built on Renshaw Drive in 1954 where they resided for sixty-four years. Elaine worked at the KAYL Radio Station as a receptionist for a few years and then at the Smart But Thrifty Dress Shop and The Sugar Bowl. An actively involved long time member of the PEO, Chapter N.L., and the United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School and belonged to the Circle. She and Jim became charter members of the Lake Creek Country Club. In addition, she volunteered at the hospital coffee shop for twenty years and as a Cub Scout and Brownie leader. On bitter cold winter days in the late 1950s, Elaine, dressed in her nightgown, would drive Scotty to deliver the Des Moines Register.

Elaine had many hobbies including playing cards and taking photos of her family and friends. Moreover, she and Jim enjoyed playing in a couples’ golf league at Lake Creek. She, also, liked sewing, knitting, quilting, baking, and, most especially, shopping. She belonged to several bridge clubs, one of which she participated in for fifty years. Her coffee group met every Monday morning for forty years. An avid reader, she loved to have her grandchildren at her home. She and Jim traveled often to Austin, Minnesota, Plover, Wisconsin, and Reno, Nevada, to see their children and grandchildren. Each winter for twenty years, they vacationed in Florida. They enjoyed going to Lake Okoboji and Door County with family and friends, and they took a few cruises including one to Alaska with her sister, Bette and her husband, Bud, to celebrate of their fiftieth wedding anniversary. With Elaine around, there was never a dull moment. Her loving spirit, sarcastic wit, and good sense of humor will, always, be remembered.

Elaine is survived by her husband of seventy-two years, James “Jim" Louis Reese; her children: Scott (Lynna) Reese, Sandra Davis, and Patricia Rogers; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren; as well as many “collectibles.” She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Bette (Glen) Waite, and her favorite grand-dog Duncan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Genesis Development, 1607 North Lake Avenue, Storm Lake, Iowa 50588, or to the United Methodist Church, 211 East Third Street, Storm Lake, Iowa 50588.
