Rosie Kies
November 7, 1930 - May 8, 2019

Rosie Kies, age 88, of Newell, Iowa, died on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Rosie Louise Juilfs, a daughter of George and Marie (Frerichs) Juilfs, was born on November 7, 1930, in Pomeroy, Iowa. Baptized as an infant and later confirmed at St. John’s American Lutheran Church in Pomeroy, she was raised in Pomeroy where she attended grade school. Then, at a young age, she started working in Rockwell City where she, later, met her husband, Donald Kies. They married on December 18, 1949, at St. John’s American Lutheran Church in Pomeroy. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: Eugene, Marlene, Bonnie, and Wayne. In time, however, Rosie joined the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake and became a member of the Good Sam Camping Club.

A wonderful cook and mother, Rosie, often, helped her husband with his clockwork. Moreover, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting in her free time. Faithful to scripture, she read her Bible three times after her husband passed. Quick witted, she spoke her mind. A strong woman, she endured much pain during her life but would always battle through with a smile. She will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Eugene (Micki) Kies, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, Marlene (Ray) Daisy, of Chapman, Kansas, Bonnie (Gene) Simpson, of Sac City, Iowa, and Wayne (Rachael) Kies, of Windom, Minnesota; her grandchildren: Terra (Mitch Morgan), Ray (Jennifer), and Chad Daisy; Ezra (fiancée, Madeline Doubt), Hannah (fiancé, Luke Hubbard), Jeremy (Vicki), Jon (Jessica), and Maddisen Kies (fiancé, Vince Belpulsi); Shelley (Alan) Mehne; Richard (Tammy), and Todd Offedahl; Eric (Tasha), Jerry (Summer), Chris (Ann), Curt (special friend, Nikki), Michael, and Jacob (special friend, Alex) Simpson; thirty-two great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Darlene (Darwin) Becker; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Kies; her brother, Derrald Juilfs; her sister, Delphine Lange; and her parents-in-law, Ezra and Jane Kies.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Wheatland Cemetery in rural Breda. Visitation will take place on Monday, May 13, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in STORM LAKE. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
