Florence Johnson, age 91, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Friday, May 10, 2019, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

Florence Hulda (Larson) Johnson, a daughter of Carl and Elsie (Peterson) Larson, was born on their farm north of Albert City, Iowa, on March 18, 1928. Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Albert City, she accepted Christ as her Savior as a young adult. Educated at the Albert City Community School, she graduated in 1946. Then, she stayed at home to help her father because her mother had passed away about two weeks before she graduated.

On December 17, 1948, Florence married Eldon Harry Johnson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City. After their wedding, however, she joined the Covenant Church in Albert City.

Florence and her husband Eldon lived upstairs at his folks’ house east of Albert City for three years. After their first child was born, they moved one mile north for more room. Then, a year later, after Eldon’s parents moved to Albert City, they moved back to the home place. They were blessed with three children: Colin, Patty, and Robert. A devoted and loving wife and mother, Florence treasured her family.

On the serving committee at church for several years, she enjoyed working in the kitchen. In addition, she belonged to the Friendly Circle Club and the Covenant Women.

An amazing cook, Florence enjoyed having family gatherings and friends over for meals. Indeed, her chocolate chip cookies, brownies, coffee rings, and rye bread became family favorites along with her special “turkey steaks” which she made by hand from their own turkeys. In addition, she enjoyed having a large garden, doing yard work, and helping Eldon with the turkeys. Florence and Eldon took their family on many memorable trips by train and automobile. They continued traveling after the children had left home.

Florence and Eldon moved from the farm to Countryside Living on December 28, 2004, because of Eldon’s failing health. Very much devoted to each other every step of the way, she stayed by his side aiding and assisting him as ALS slowly took his life. After his death in October of 2005, she remained at Countryside Living and regularly drove out to the farm to mow or do other chores. She very much enjoyed keeping up with the goings on at the farm until her failing eyesight curtailed her ability to drive.

Florence’s life will, always, be cherished and celebrated by her family which includes: her children: Colin (Mary) Johnson, of Albert City, Iowa, Patty (Gary) Brosamle, of Holstein, Iowa, and Robert (Joleen) Johnson, of Albert City, Iowa; her grandchildren: Nick (Julia) Brosamle; Stacie (Tony) Englin; and Jorgen (Amanda), Bjorn (Britney), and Luke Johnson; and her great-grandchildren: Grace and Landon Brosamle; Alayna, Brandon, Ryan, and Tyler Englin; and Cecilia, Estelle, Noah, and Soren Johnson; as well as by many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldon, on October 8, 2005; her brother, LeRoy; and her sisters, Marian and Fern.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 16, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
