March 17, 1930 - April 7, 2019

Patty Herpst, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on April 7, 2019, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Patty Ann Sliefert was born on March 17, 1930, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Arthur and Dolly (Hemm) Sliefert. Baptized as an infant and later confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, she remained a lifelong member. Growing up, she attended school in Storm Lake, graduating from Storm Lake South School in 1947. On June 22, 1947, Patty married Albert Herpst, Jr., at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: Alan, Gary, Laurie, and Vickie.

Patty loved cooking, gardening and canning. She, also, enjoyed growing flowers. She treasured family holidays and spending time with family. In her spare time, Patty liked making weekend daytrips all in one car to Colorado, South Dakota, and Missouri, the last trip they took as a whole family. In addition, Patty loved visiting her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and attending their school related activities. Undoubtedly, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Gary (Connie) Herpst, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Laurie (Gary) Messerich, of Glidden, Iowa, Vickie (Marvin) Wieck, of Brooklyn, Iowa; her grandchildren: Bonni and Todd (Leah) Herpst; Angie (Matt) Madsen; Dan (Sara) Messerich; Kenard and Kyler (Mary Kate) Prunty; Tammy (Jeremy) Raezler; Kristy (Cate) Ryan; Kendra Tribby; her great grandchildren: Alexandra, Caeden, Caeleb, Clare, Emma, Hannah, Jack, Kamaeya, Liam, Madeline, Micah, Rylea, Sara; Ty, and Xander; and his sisters-in-law: Vivian, Sharon, and Dianne Sliefert; as well as other extended family members and friends.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Herpst, Jr.; her son, Alan Herpst; her father-in-law; four brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation is scheduled for one hour before the services at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
