April 16, 1927 - December 17, 2018

Raymond Vogel, age 91, of Newell, Iowa, passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Tuesday, December 17, 2018. Born on April 16, 1927, on a farm outside Lake View, Iowa, to Fred and Pauline (Stahl) Vogel, he was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Growing up on a farm, he attended country school in Lake View. In 1938, however, his family moved to Nemaha, Iowa, where he attended Delaware Township School.

Immediately after graduating, Raymond was inducted into the United States Army. After serving his country during World War II, he was honorably discharged on January 3, 1947. He returned home to farm. Later that year, on December 12, 1947, he married Eugenia Shaw in Sac City, Iowa. Just a few days before his passing, he and Eugenia celebrated seventy-one years of marriage. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Linda. They made their home in Newell where Raymond farmed the land. A very patriotic, long-time member of the V.F.W. in Alta, Iowa, he, always, supported his country and its military in their quest to protect our freedoms and preserve the peace. Always outside or fishing, as well, he enjoyed traveling. Moreover, he loved his family and enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow. He will be, dearly, missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Survivors left to cherish Raymond’s memory include his wife, Genie Vogel, of Newell, Iowa; his daughter, Linda (Dennis) Coiro, of Glendale, Arizona; his grandchildren: Matthew (Annie) Converse, of Peoria, Arizona, Lisa (Jay) Nestle, of Churchville, Maryland, and Sheila (Jim) Fields, of Anthem, Arizona; eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Roy (Jan) Vogel, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; his sister, Arlene (Wayne) Spier, of Gretna, Nebraska; and his sister-in-law, Coleen Vogel, of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as many extended family members and friends. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dale and Ralph Vogel.
