August 2, 1943 - December 7, 2018Lavon Irene Richardson, age 75, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, December 7, 2018, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.
Lavon Richardson, a daughter of Paul and Irene (Hartje) Rathke, was born on August 2, 1943, in Storm Lake. Baptized as an infant at Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake and later confirmed in 1957 at the same church, she attended grade school at Zion Parochial School until the 8th grade. Then, she transferred to the high school at Truesdale where she graduated in 1961. Next, she furthered her education by completing a two-year business program at Mankato Business School in Minnesota.
On March 6, 1965, Lavon married Marvin Richardson at Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. They were, subsequently, blessed with two children, Kevin and Kimberly. Lavon worked as a switch board operator at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for twenty-seven years and as an Avon Representative for many years. Always known for her baking, she shared her talent with friends and family. Above all, however, she loved visiting her children and grandchildren in Oregon. Undoubtedly, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, she leaves behind her children, grandchildren, and sisters as well as various extended family members and friends to cherish her memory. They include her son. Kevin (Mary) Richardson, of Hillsboro, Oregon; her daughter, Kimberly (Sean) Mish, of Portland, Oregon; her grandchildren: Simone and Alex Richardson, of Hillsboro, Oregon, and Kira and Zoe Mish, of Portland, Oregon; her sisters: Lois (Orlando) Leimer, of Albert City, Iowa. Ladene (Bill) Chambers, of Aurora, Colorado, and LeAnn (Ivan) Klein, of Gibbon, Nebraska.
Lavon was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; her parents, Paul and Irene Rathke; her parents-in-law, Clarence and Margaret Richardson; and her brother-in-law, Bill Chambers.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday, December 10, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in STORM LAKE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Hour, 660 Mason Ridge Center, St. Louis, Missouri 63141 or to the Storm Lake Fire Department, 820 Oneida Street, Storm Lake, Iowa 50588. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
