Maxine L. Dettmann
May 21, 1931 - October 27, 2018Maxine L. Dettmann, age 87, of Newell, Iowa, passed away on October 27, 2018, at the UnityPoint Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
A daughter of Nolan and Opal (Marrington) Kent, Maxine Lorraine Kent was born on May 21, 1931, in Lake City, Iowa. Growing up, she attended school in Auburn, graduating from Auburn High School. Then, on May 11, 1951, she married Bill Dettmann in Auburn. Subsequently, they were blessed with two sons: Kevin and Collin. Maxine worked at the Lytton Cooperative Elevator for many years before relocating to Newell to work in the family business with her husband, Bill, who operated the Dettmann Oil Company.
Maxine enjoyed playing cards, shopping, and gardening. In addition, she loved listening to music, reading and traveling. Moreover, she valued spending time with her family, and she treasured being able to do so. Maxine will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons: Kevin (Mary) Dettmann, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Collin Dettmann (friend, Kim Zilverbery), of Ames, Iowa; her grandson, Nolan (Aiyana) Dettmann, of La Crosse, Wisconsin; her brother, Duane (Lucille) Kent, of Aurelia, Iowa; and her sisters-in-law, Esther Dettmann, of Sac City, Iowa, and Dee Ahern of Stuart, Florida; as well as cherished nieces; nephews; extended family members, and many friends. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Nolan and Opal Kent; and her husband, Bill Dettmann.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 17, 2018, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in NEWELL. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Auburn, Iowa. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
