Virgil Paulsen, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Virgil Eugene Paulsen, a son of Harold and Clara (Andresen) Paulsen, was born on May 19, 1932, in Battle Creek, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his youth, he attended grade school in Cushing, Iowa, and high school in Galva, graduating in 1951. Then, on August 12, 1951, he married Lou Ann Olson at the Galva Lutheran Church. The couple was blessed with three children: Patti, Kevin, and Brian.

Throughout his life, Virgil enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. In his later years, he restored and refinished furniture at his warehouse in Galva. After retiring from Hygrade, he joined his wife (Lou) in doing antique shows throughout the U.S. Most of all, however, Virgil loved spending time with his family, especially in Okoboji at the Hedge Row Resort. He will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lou Ann Paulsen; his children: Patti (Bruce) Paulsen Taylor, Kevin (Mary Anne) Paulsen, and Brian (Meredith) Paulsen; his grandchildren: Shawn Nelson; Cody, Erik, Josh (Elizabeth), Mike (Ashley), Morgan, and Todd (Jenn) Paulsen; Bruce Dell Taylor; Kerry (Paul) Venuti; and Tina (Kory) Zimney; and sixteen great-grandchildren; as well as extended family members and friends.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Clara Paulsen; his brother, Vertis Paulsen; his sister, Vernelle Cook; his great-granddaughter, Lexie Johnson; his sister-in-law, Jeanine Paulsen; and his brother-in-law, Patrick Cook.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in STORM LAKE. Burial will be in the Galva Township East Cemetery. Visitation will take place for one hour before the service at the funeral home. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
