Kyle J. Drey
July 24, 1984 - June 13, 2018

Kyle J. Drey, age 33, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, in rural Storm Lake.

Kyle Joseph Drey, a son of Daniel and Tracy (McKee) Drey, was born on July 24, 1984, in Storm Lake, Iowa. His mother said he had smiled every day since the day he was born. Baptized on August 5, 1984, at the Sacred Heart Church in Early, he was confirmed on April 7, 2002, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake.

While growing up, Kyle and his siblings spent their time outside from sunup to sundown. Fortunately, his father, Daniel, instilled in him a love of farming at a very young age. Moreover, after chores were completed, the family was known to pile in the family vehicle to get in a round of golf. Kyle attended grade school and high school at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Storm Lake. After receiving his high school diploma in 2003, he decided to continue his education at Buena Vista University. He, then, went on to become an entrepreneur, building a successful farming/spraying business in and around Storm Lake. In addition, he worked as a contract grower for AMVC.

A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Kyle, also, played a very important role in the Merten’s Coffee Club where they held regular meetings.

Kyle and Jacquie Bauer, first, met in 2008 at a local establishment on the lake. They had their first date at St. Mary’s Ball where Kyle, instantly, fell for her. With immense love, he married Jacquie at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake on February 14, 2009. Together, Kyle and Jacquie raised three daughters, Jordan, Dani, and Keeley. Kyle, especially, treasured his family as he loved spending time with Jacquie, his girls, and his extended family any chance he got.

Kyle was very involved in his community and played an important role to the youth through coaching at St. Mary’s. He loved bringing Dani to those early morning practices where he got some good one-on-one time with her. He, also, loved watching his younger brother, Kennedy, dominate the court for the Buena Vista Beavers, and he truly loved his special moments with Keeley, his one and only cuddle-bug.

In his free time, Kyle enjoyed playing basketball in the Old Man’s league, spending time at the lake, and following the Iowa State Cyclones. Moreover, he will, always, hold the title of Euchre Champion as he and Blake (Team Shake and Bake) were the reigning champs of the family holiday euchre tournaments. Kyle had a passion for farming, and he, truly, enjoyed the outdoors. The first to help a friend in need, he would shingle a house, pour cement, fix a combine, or plant the crops.

In spite of his propensity to procrastinate, Kyle would, still, get the job done and done well. Kind, generous, loyal, and forever calm, he, totally, loved all people and will be fondly remembered as a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Indeed, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jacquie Drey, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Jordan Bauer (fiancé, Blake Haluska), of North Liberty, Iowa, and Dani and Keeley Drey, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his parents, Daniel and Tracy Drey, of Early, Iowa; his siblings: Kirby (Meghan) Drey, of Kentland, Indiana, Kristen (Richard) Carter, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Kassie (Sheree) Drey, of Mason City, Iowa, and Kennedy Drey, of Early, Iowa; his father-in-law, Terry Bauer, of Alta, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Cherl Bauer, of Spencer, Iowa; his brothers-in-law: Jeff (Becki) Bauer and Josh (Jennifer) Bauer, all of Denver, Colorado; and his sister-in-law, Jodi (Derek) Stepanek, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Kyle was preceded in death by his grandparents: Donald and Francis Drey and Robert Mckee and Betty Wilson; and his aunt, Beth (Drey) Harder.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 18, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place Sunday, June 17, 2018, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Kyle’s name. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
