Betty Clapp, age 87, of Linn Grove, Iowa, died on Monday, June 4, 2018, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Betty Jean Samuelson, a daughter of Oliver and Josie (Knudtson) Samuelson, was born near Royal, Iowa, on December 27, 1930. She asked Jesus Christ to be her Savior the same day as her new husband, Troy, of two months while attending the Okoboji Lakes Bible and Missionary Conference in August of 1948. Betty received her education at the Linn Grove Consolidated School, graduating with the Class of 1948.

On June 6, 1948, Betty married Troy Richard Clapp at Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove, Iowa, and their union was blessed with two children, Paula Jean and Paul Richard. Betty and Troy’s dedicated their lives to farming and their poultry business. In 2011, they moved to Storm Lake, making it their home. At one time she had, also, worked at the Spider’s Web in Webb, Iowa.

A member of the Geneva Fellowship and the Women’s Organization at the Riverside Presbyterian Church, Betty, also, served as the church’s historian for many years. Betty and Troy were, also, affiliated for many years with the First Baptist Church at Webb, Iowa. Gifted in sewing, making quilts, and doing embroidery work. Betty had a servant’s heart and assisted in church as a Sunday school teacher and an AWANA leader. She will be remembered for her delicious angel food cakes and especially for the smaller cakes she made to share with those in the nursing home. Betty, also, had a love for flowers, especially for red roses, and she was musically talented and could play the piano “by ear.” A woman of great faith, she made her life into a testimony of her love for the Lord.

Betty’s life is celebrated and honored by her family which includes her children, Paula (Lowell) Bartels, of Beresford, South Dakota, and Paul Clapp, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, her grandchildren: Brent (Emily) Bartels, of Beresford, South Dakota, Janey (Erik) Case, of Tea, South Dakota, Kirsten (Geoff) Clark, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Mark (Lexanne) Clapp, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Michele (Colin) Hogrefe, of Linn Grove, Iowa; and her great grandchildren: Landen Bartels; Carson, Conner, and Benjamin Case, and Cael and Brandt Hogrefe; as well as by nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy, on July 4, 2014; her parents, Oliver and Josie Samuelson; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Lois Samuelson, her sister, Mary Lee Samuelson; her brothers-in-law, Lawrence (Dorothy) Rusk and Dwight (Mary) Clapp.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the Riverside Evangelical Free Church in Linn Grove. Burial will follow in the Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove. Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 7, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed to Bibles for the World, the Okoboji Bible Conference, or the Samaritan's Purse.
