Herman A. Sahr
September 29, 1939 - March 22, 2018

Surrounded by his family, Herman Sahr, 78, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, formally of Farnhamville, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2018.

Given life by his Creator, Herman Alfred Sahr was born on September 29, 1939, to Ernest and Sylvia (Marquis) Sahr in Lake City, Iowa. After graduation from Cedar Valley High School in Somers, Iowa, he served for three and a half years in the United States Air Force where he trained as a dental technician.

On October 24, 1964, Herman married Sharon Cline at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farnhamville, Iowa. They, subsequently, resided and raised their four children in Storm Lake, Iowa. A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, he served as an elder and treasurer. Moreover, he, actively, participated in the fellowship club, evangelism outreach, and Bible study. After working as a dental technician, Herman returned to what he loved most: the land. He began pursuing a career in agricultural, working for Farm Service and DeKalb. In 1997, Herman and Sharon moved to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. There, he worked at Hutchinson Technology, AJ Manufacturing in Bloomer, the Forest Hill Cemetery, and the Eagelton Nursing Home. An active member of Zion Lutheran Church, he served as an elder and as president of the congregation.

Herman enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, riding his John Deere lawn tractor, woodworking, taking pictures, studying the Bible, bicycling, and farming. Deeply devoted to his family, he took advantage of every opportunity to get together. He could, always, be counted on to cheer-on his children and grandchildren at their various ball games and concerts. A man of few words and a rock to his family through his strong convictions and actions, Herman will, always, be remembered for his “Sahr grin” and his joy in and pride for his family.

He will be lovingly remembered by Sharon, his wife of fifty-three years; his children: Mark (Diane) Sahr, of Minnetrista, Minnesota, Debra (Terry) Hieserich, of Chaska, Minnesota, Michael (Lisa) Sahr, of Woodbury, Minnesota, David (Jerilyn) Sahr, of Alta, Iowa; his grandchildren: Brady, Grace, Jayson (Laura), Joey, Paige, and Robert Sahr; and Jenna (Brad) Werner; his great grandchildren, Grant and Ben Werner; and his sister-in-law, Maxine Sahr; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Sylvia Sahr, and his brother, Earl Sahr.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 26 at Zion Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls, with the Rev. Timothy Jones officiating. Military honors conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will be held immediately following the service at the church. Interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 25, 2018, at the Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, and for one additional hour before the service Monday at the church. Memorials may be designated to Zion Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank Mayo Hospice and Chistine Eagers at Appeal to Heaven. The Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, Chippewa Falls, is serving the family.
