Dennis D. Peters
May 3, 1944 - March 31, 2018Dennis Peters, age 73, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at his home in Storm Lake.
Dennis Dean Peters, known by his friends as “Pete, lived a colorful life. He was born on May 3, 1944, at Storm Lake, Iowa, to Lowell and Joy (Meyer) Peters. He lived his youth and received his education in Storm Lake. Then, he continued his education in Minneapolis where he became a first-class electronic technician. In 1962, he joined the Army and served in Korea and Germany.
Upon returning home, he met and married Diane Starkenburg at Omaha, Nebraska, on February 7,1967. Moreover, he took Carrie as his daughter. Another daughter, Dina, was born in 1968. A daughter, Cindy, moved in with the family in 1974.
Throughout his very full and active life, Pete golfed Saturday mornings with Bingo Bango, ran a CB shop, coached the original White Caps baseball team, rode motorcycles, ran the Storm Lake Municipal Golf Course, water skied, boated and, of course, hunted. In addition, he had a most impressive repertoire of jokes.
Pete was known as a generous person, dog lover, and an all-around good guy. He loved tinkering with his duck boat, making it bigger, stronger and faster. He, always, outfitted his trucks with duck and goose decals, and he loved blowing duck and goose calls, even in spite of his family’s complaining.
Pete had many friends in the duck hunting world, including his best hunting buddy, Jim Nichols. He led many hunting trips to Niobrara, Nebraska, Canada, and Kansas. Many of his friends learned about hunting from Pete, and they had many amazing (and funny) stories to tell about the things they’d seen and done.
Pete would, also, do anything for his kids and grandkids. He was the “go to guy” for putting things together and fixing everything. Moreover, he loved teasing kids with his dad jokes and pranks.
His life will always be loved and cherished by his family which includes his wife of fifty-one years, Dianne, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Cindy Bosley, and her fiancé, Curt Ellison, also of Storm Lake, Iowa, Carrie Peters, of Early, Iowa, and Dina (Doug) Yarbrough; his grandchildren: Jaimee (Joe) Beisler, Shayne (Danika) Hinkeldey, Justin Gosch, and Alex and Taylor Yarbrough; his great grandchildren: Ty and Kaitlyn Gosch; Preston, Madison, and Dawson Hinkeldey; and Caytlin and Brayden Dirks; and his brother, Doug (Sharen) Peters, of Storm Lake; as well as by other extended family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. We will, sorely, miss him, but we are so happy he led such a full and wonderful life.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place for one hour before the service at the funeral home.
