Tom Paterson, age 73, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on March 17, 2018, in Sioux City, Iowa.

Thomas David Paterson was born on February 14, 1945, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Elmer and Evelyn (Anderson) Paterson. He lived his youth in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1962. In 1965, he entered the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1971. On September 12, 1970, Tom married Shirley Schuler in Atlantic. Together, they raised three children: Jason, Ryan, and Brad. The couple, however, later divorced.

Tom, always, treasured his family. Throughout his life, he enjoyed spending time with them and traveling. A member of a card club, he, also, made time for his other favorite activities: golfing, bowling, and fishing. He will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Jason (Barbie Terry) Paterson, of West Des Moines, Iowa, Ryan (Jenny Ahlers) Paterson, of Lakeside, Iowa, and Brad Paterson, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his sister, Karen (Bob) Foster, of Shenandoah, Iowa; his grandchildren: Brooklyn and Irelyn Ahlers, of Lakeside, Iowa; his niece, Tammy (Marty) Hansen, of Springfield, Missouri; and his nephew, Craig Foster, of Shenandoah, Iowa. Tom is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place during the hour before the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund for the family has been established. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
