Lauren was born on October 25, 1924, in York, Nebraska. Shortly thereafter, he moved with his family to western Nebraska before returning to the Bradshaw area. He attended country school until he reached high school. For his freshman year and part of his sophomore, he attended school in Polk. For the remainder of his high school years went to school in Norfolk, Mapleton, and Underwood. While his dad worked at a flour mill, Lauren lived in Norfolk, Nebraska. The next move took him to an Iowa farm north of Mapleton where his dad was employed. After his dad was offered a chance to farm on his own, they moved to McClelland, Iowa. On February 12,1949, Lauren married Frances McElroy. Subsequently, they had four children: Dianne, Kathy, Larry, and Theresa.

In 1952, the Iowa Highway Patrol accepted Lauren, but instead, he chose a sales job with Gooch Feed as a territory man in Sheldon, Iowa. He worked for the Gooch Feed Mill for seven years while calling on hatcheries, feed and grain elevators, and private feed dealers. The last two years of this job, however, he spent attracting new dealers and facilitating informational meetings to promote feed sales to farmers. In 1959, Lauren moved his family to Storm Lake and became a partner in Adams Feed and Hatchery. Moreover, he served on the Volunteer Fire Department and as the Assistant Chief for three years.

In 1966, Lauren began working for Hubbard Milling. In 1971, he moved to Orange City and worked for K Products. In 1985, he retired from K Products and moved to Omaha. While in Omaha, he worked for Job Search and U. S. Checkbook. After Lauren and Frances moved back to Storm Lake, they lived next to the Lake Creek Golf Course. Frances passed away in October 21,1991.

On Dec. 19,1997, Lauren married Doris Currie. They lived on a farm south of Storm Lake for ten years until Doris passed. In May 2007, he purchased a small home in Storm Lake. In 2014, he sold his home and moved into Lake Pointe Villa. As his eyesight declined in September 2017, he moved to the Methodist Manor.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Dianne (Randy) Hoffman, of Nora Springs, Iowa, Kathy (Jim) Gearhart, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Larry (Rachel) McBride, of Clinton, Missouri, and Theresa (Pat) Phipps, of Moville, Iowa; his grandchildren: Paige (Kelly) Daughenbaugh, Jeremy (Kelly) Gearhart, Heather (John) Miller, Amanda (Brigham) VanAuken, Adam Hoffman, Michelle (Jensen) Tyler, Jay (Jessie) and Mike Phipps, Tonya (Chris) Wisner, Matt McBride, and Kasey (Travis) Walters; twenty-three great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces; four step children and their families, and a sister-in-law, Donna Caricaburu.
