Marilyn E. Spooner, age 86, of Aurelia, Iowa, died on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Marilyn Elizabeth Fitchett, a daughter of Floyd, Sr., and Alice (Hunter) Fitchett, was born in Newell, Iowa, on August 31, 1931. She lived her youth in the Sulphur Springs vicinity and attended school in Sulphur Springs where she graduated with the Class of 1949. Next, she worked as a USDA inspector for several years before enrolling at Western Iowa Tech. In 1985, she graduated with an Associate Degree in Nursing. Eventually, she became Director of Nurses at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake where she devoted herself to the residents, their families, and her co-workers.

On March 29, 1950, Marilyn married Edward Spooner. Subsequently, they were blessed with six children: Charles, Bonnie, James, Robert, Lori, and William.

Her special interests included camping, sewing, knitting, watching movies, gardening, and most of all, spending time with her large family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include her children: Charles (Kathy) Spooner, of Firestone, Colorado, Bonnie (David) Conley, of Aurelia, Iowa, James (Betty) Spooner, of Odebolt, Iowa, Robert (Alice) Spooner, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Lori Ann White, of Aurora, Missouri, and William (Margaret) Spooner, of Celestine, Indiana; twenty-three grandchildren; and thirty-three great grandchildren.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward, on September 19, 2017; her brothers: John Fitchett and Floyd Fitchett, Jr.; and her grandchild, Justin Spooner.

A Celebration of Life and Love will be held Monday, January 8, 2018, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
