A daughter of Edward and Rose (Minette) Brander, Rose was born on August 4, 1930, in Storm Lake, Iowa. Baptized as an infant at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake and confirmed there in 1941, she attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, graduating in 1949. On September 9, 1950, she married Charles M. Mills also at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Subsequently, they were blessed with five children: Melinda, Kathleen, Jon, Cynthia, and Jaclyn.
A proud resident of the City of Lakeside for many years, Rose, also, worked for her city. A life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, she, always, participated in the Prayer Line. Otherwise, she enjoyed doing crafts and other handwork projects as well as playing cards and board games with the neighborhood kids. Most of all, however, she loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren. For sure, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Melinda Mills, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Kathleen Mills, of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Jaclyn (Scott) Eike, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Sheila Mills, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Richard (Linda) Dutcher, Jason Wolf, Gabrielle and Eric Mills, Travis (Brianne) Christiansen, Zechariah (Theresa) Moffitt, Heather and Joshua Milton, and Amanda (Derek) Eike Koehler; great grandchildren: Hannah and Bryant Dutcher; Emily Cipale; Evan and Ella Christiansen; Karley, Dominac, and Hannah Mills; Kathryn and Cole Nuanez; Zabriel and Chayton Moffitt; Alicia Martin; Sierra Sherman; and Lisa and Austin Myers; her great great-grandchildren: Kayden, Zayden, Harper, and Christopher; her sister, Mary Hartman, of Le Mars, Iowa; and her honorary grandchildren: Amy, Heather, Farell, and Mclaine; as well as extended family members and friends.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles, in 1997; her son, Jon, in 2016; her daughter, Cynthia, in 2001; her sisters: Lorraine Peterson, Dorothy Brander, and Agnes (Gerald) Scott; brothers: Allen, Eddie, Ward, and Tubby “Lloyd” Brander; her brothers-in-law: Glenn Peterson and Carl Hartman; her nephew, Carl Hartman; and her great nephew, Patrick Harrington.
