R. Michael Hale
May 12, 1960 - September 30, 2017

Raymond Michael (Mike) Hale, age 57, of Casa Grande, Arizona, passed away at his home on September 30, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mike, a son of Raymond Morgan and Wilma (Stange) Hale, was born on May 12, 1960, in Limestone, Maine. Baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rembrandt, he attended Rembrandt Consolidated School, graduating in 1979. On August 26, 1981, he joined the United States Army. He, proudly, served his country throughout two tours in Germany and was, honorably, discharged on November 16, 1989. While stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, he met his future wife, Elaine Doherty. On January 2, 1988, Mike married Elaine in Omaha, Nebraska. Subsequently, they were blessed with one son, John. On September 18, 2015, they renewed their vows in Casa Grande, Arizona. Mike worked at Hexcel Corporation in Casa Grande where he made airplane parts. A very talented carpenter, he, with Elaine’s help, remodeled every home they lived in. Their son, John, also, helped.

Mike was a sports enthusiast. He enjoyed watching college football whether Iowa, Nebraska, or Arizona teams were playing. Also a Denver Broncos fan, he would watch as many of their games as he could. An avid bowler, he would bowl on Monday league nights in Sioux Rapids. Then, he would, often, spend Wednesday nights watching stock car races at the Buena Vista Raceway in Alta. Moreover, he loved watching NASCAR races, hunting, fishing, and camping with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Elaine Hale, of Casa Grande, Arizona; his son, John Hale (Andrea) of Casa Grande, Arizona; his sisters: Teresa Lammers, Jeanne Iehl, and Kim (Eddie) Farris, all of Rembrandt, Iowa, Lisa (Everett) Huffer, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Angie (Charlie) Grienke, of Alta, Iowa; his brothers- and sisters-in-law: John Doherty, of Casa Grande, Arizona, Doreen (Tim) Morris, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Laurie (Mike) Ziegler, of Hilliard, Florida; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Wilma Hale; his mother- and father-in-law, John and Marge Doherty; his brother-in-law, Kevin Iehl; and his beloved dog and companion, Mia.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Little Sioux Valley Cemetery in rural Rembrandt, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Sioux Rapids American Legion in Sioux Rapids. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
