Bud Boettcher
April 24, 1926 - September 23, 2017

Lorenz "Bud" Martin Boettcher, age 91, of Alta, Iowa died on September 23, 2017, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

“Bud,” a son of Helmuth and Ida (Hild) Boettcher, was born on April 24, 1926, in rural Storm Lake, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, he attended school through the 8th grade at Zion Lutheran Parochial School. He, then, started farming with his dad while also helping the neighbors on their farms.

On June 13, 1948, he married Doris Elaine Ostermann, the school teacher at Zion. Together, they made their first home in Marathon, Iowa, before moving to Grant Township where they lived and farmed for forty-five years. On that farm, they, also, raised their three children: Joan, Jeffrey, and Karla. In 1996, however, they moved to Alta. Family and farming were Bud’s passions. He enjoyed working with his son, Jeff, his partner in B and B Hog Farm. In later years by working for Dave Demers, he was able to continue his love for farming until he turned 90. A friend to many, he would socialize and joke around with his coffee group, friends, and family. He will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved him. A lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, Bud served on the church board as an elder and trustee, sang in the choir, and participated in dart league. He, also, sat on the Truesdale Co-op Board.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Joan Kersten, of Anchorage, Alaska, Jeffrey (Judy) Boettcher, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Karla (Rob) Lyngstad, of Fargo, North Dakota; ten grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren: Joan’s family, Amy (Gedney) Riley, and their daughter, Emma; Jason (Kim) Kersten, and their children, Brooks and Vail; Ryan (Justine) Kersten, and their children, Dane, Presley, Beck, Deacon, Lincoln, and Roman; Jeni (Aaron) Crowder, and their son, Gavin; Jessica (Anthony) Stong, and their son, Liam; Jeffrey’s family: Abigail (Jeremy) Davis, and their children Landry and Milloy; Emily (Rob) Ellefson, and their children Fisher and Finley; Addalyn Boettcher; Karla’s family: Katie (Joshua) Johnson and their children, Brady and Beckett; John (Alexandra) Lyngstad, and their children, Amalia and Ellie; his siblings: Mardie White, of Newell, Iowa, Lloyd (Nora) Boettcher, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Ruth (Milo) Harpstead, of Stevens Pointe, Wisconsin, and Carol (Edward) Maas, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; as well as extended family members and many friends. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Helmuth and Ida Boettcher; his wife, Doris Boettcher; and one sister, Lorraine Clausen.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, September 28, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place Wednesday, September 27, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
