June 4, 1937 - August 19, 2017Dale E. Truesdell, age 80, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at the Hawkeye Care Center in Sioux Rapids.
Dale Everette, a son of Dale Everette and Edna (Messerschmitt) Cuthbert, was born in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, on June 4, 1937. In November 1942, Dale moved with his family to Omaha, Nebraska. There, he was adopted by Doyle Frank Truesdell on June 19, 1943, and his name was changed to Dale Everette Truesdell. In March 1948, Dale returned to Sioux Rapids. The family later relocated to Missouri where Dale attended school and graduated from the Carterville, Missouri, High School with the Class of 1955. Dale, then, moved back to Sioux Rapids and joined the United States Army. He served his country from September 7, 1960, until his honorable on August 16, 1962. A decorated sharp shooter, he earned the rank of Sergeant during the Korean Conflict [Post Korean Conflict Occupation].*
Dale married Pauline (Endsley) Larkin on March 7, 1965, in Sioux Rapids. In December of 1965, Dale purchased the pump sales and service portion of the business owned by Art Middendorf and began the Truesdell Pump Sales and Service. He operated that business from 1965 until he retired in 2012. Very devoted and committed to the customers he felt privileged to serve, he, always, went out of his way to please them. In addition, he owned and operated the car wash in Sioux Rapids from 1975 until 2010. Frequently, he would host car washes as fundraisers for the school. For the past three years, Dale made his home at the Hawkeye Care Center.
A member of the Sioux Rapids Fire Department for thirty-five years, Dale played a very active role in his community, serving as fire chief for several years. A member of the Little Sioux Golf and Country Club, Dale enjoyed playing golf. Indeed, he served as the club’s president. In addition, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and making annual trips to the Deadwood Casino.
Dale’s life is honored and cherished by his family which includes his children: Tommy Larkin, of Tujunga, California, Cynthia (Brian) Baldwin, of Mapleton, Iowa, and Jimmy Truesdell, also of Tujunga, California; his grandchildren: Brett (Jody) and Ryan Baldwin; Christa (Jeremy) Blake; Kayla (Paul) Brown; Jessica (Calvin) Bruhn; Shannon (Todd) Goettsch; Candace (Ryan) Jacobson; and Tristan and Tara Truesdell; and his great grandchildren: Max and Wyatt Baldwin; Daxton, Rowan, and Thatcher Blake; Eva Brown, Cooper, Hudson, and Presley Bruhn; Alaina, Addisyn, Olivia, Taylor, and Trey, Goettsch; and Brynn and Lily Jacobson; as well as nieces, nephews, other extended family members; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline, on February 7, 2008; three sisters: Dorothy Brock, Jeanette Benson, and Arlene Bright; along with several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Friday, August 25, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will follow in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place for one hour before the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is overseeing the arrangements.
