David Lee Maxson
September 9, 1949 - August 9, 2017David Lee Maxson, age 67, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
A son of Lucille (Nagle) Maxson, Dave was born on September 9, 1949, in Spencer, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, he attended school in Sac City and Storm Lake, eventually earning a GED in 1977. On February 10, 1968, Dave married Ruth Ann Roling at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: Denise, Melone, Mary, and Brian.
Dave worked in the agricultural industry for many years. An active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, he, also, served in the Knights of Columbus. In the community, Dave acted as the Elks Lodge Chaplain, held numerous local, regional, and state offices for the Jaycees, and recently served on the Lake Creek Country Club board.
He, particularly, enjoyed golfing, reading, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Often found playing cards with his friends, he relished “competing” with his Monday night cooking group.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ruth Ann Maxson, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Denise (Dan) Spahn, of Hinton, Iowa, Melone Van Ballegooyen, of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Mary (Mike) Nay, of Atlanta, Missouri, and Brian Maxson, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; his grandchildren: Ashley Divis, Brandon Spahn, and Cailee Spahn, all of Hinton, Iowa, Eric Van Ballegooyen, of Vermillion, South Dakota, Aaron Van Ballegooyen, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Devin Van Ballegooyen, of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Jack and Max Nay, of Atlanta, Missouri, and Grant Maxson, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; his great grandchildren: Jerzey Divis and Nick Vondrak, of Hinton, Iowa, and Sofi Van Ballegooyen, of Vermillion, South Dakota; his sister, Marsha (Larry) Bruns, of Imperial, Missouri; his brothers, Jim (Linda) Maxson, of Spencer, Iowa, and Doug Maxson, of Carroll, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Alice Roling, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and his brother- and sister-in-law, Dick (Peg) Roling, of Schaller, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille; his granddaughter, Allison Nay; his brother, Don Maxson; his sister-in-law, Linda Maxson; his sister, Sandi Conlin; his father-in-law, Vern Roling; and his grandparents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday, August 14, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Sunday, August 13, 2017, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Storm Lake Oncology or the Lake Creek Country Club. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
