November 3, 1926 - July 25, 2017Gladys Marie (Luetkeman) Jipp, age 90, of Sioux City and formerly of Storm Lake and Aurelia, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at a local care facility.
Gladys Marie Jipp, a daughter of William and Lorna (Mueller) Luetkeman, was born on November 3, 1926, on the family farm in rural Grant Township, O'Brien County. Baptized and confirmed at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, Iowa, she spent her childhood on the family farm, receiving her education at a rural school located one mile south of her home.
Gladys married Alvin Jipp on August 31st, 1947. Following their wedding, they farmed north of Sutherland but moved to a farm north of Aurelia in 1963. Upon retiring from farming in 1979, Alvin and Gladys built a home in Storm Lake where they lived before moving to the Whispering Creek Retirement Center of Sioux City in 2012. Gladys spent her life caring for her family. She had a special interest in planting beauty flowers around the home. She and Alvin, also, found great enjoyment in traveling, taking extensive sight-seeing tours throughout the United States and the world.
A member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church of Storm Lake, Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; her parents; one infant brother, Delbert; two sisters, Anita Witt and Ruby Krebs; and one grandson, Kevin Hess. Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Connie (Rollyn) Hess, of Wentworth, South Dakota, and Diane (Tom) Bousquet, of Dakota City, Nebraska; her son, Randall (Kay) Jipp, of Aurelia; six grandchildren; Shelley, Gina, Joshua, Emily, Kelsey, and Devin; and six great grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.
A private family service will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017, at the Meyer Brothers Funeral Home in Sioux City, Pastor David Koehler of Faith United Presbyterian Church officiating. A private burial for the family will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hartley. The Meyer Brothers Funeral Home is overseeing the arrangements.
