September 9, 1928 - August 3, 2017Henry H. Bolte, age 88, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.
Henry Herman Bolte, a son of Fritz and Lena (Brummer) Bolte, was born in Storm Lake, Iowa, on September 9, 1928. He lived his youth in the Albert City vicinity and received his education at the Truesdale School. Henry was baptized at his home in 1928 and confirmed at the St. John’s Evangelical Reformed Church of rural Newell in 1942. He, faithfully, served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from January 3, 1951, until his honorable discharge on December 20, 1952.
Henry married Marilyn Murphy on September 27, 1953, in Arlington, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: their twins, Arlin Lee and Evelyn Marie, Douglas Eugene, and Patricia Ann. They spent their first year of married life on a farm northeast of Albert City and the remainder of their time together on their current farm west of Albert City. Truly devoted to his vocation, he farmed from age 16 until age 85.
A faithful member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Albert City, he, regularly, attended services. Music played an important role in Henry’s life, and he had a gift for playing the button accordion, harmonica, and trumpet. He played with his Jolly Polka Band for over twenty-five years and was often featured on the Barn Dance broadcast from Fort Dodge, Iowa. In addition, he played at many dances in the area. Even though Henry could not read music, he was able to play any song that he heard. A member of the Albert City American Legion Post 299, he had, at one time, served as a past commander and treasurer. Moreover, he belonged to VFW Post 3533 of Laurens, the Albert City Improvement Corporation, and the Albert City Historical Museum.
Henry’s life is loved and cherished by his family which includes his wife of sixty-three years, Marilyn, of Albert City, Iowa; his children: Arlin (Mary) Bolte, also of Albert City, Iowa, Evelyn (Robert) Franker, of Peterson, Iowa, Douglas (Tonda) Bolte, of Albert City, Iowa, and Patricia (Michael) Schuett, of Fort Mill, South Carolina; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty-eight great grandchildren; as well as by other extended family members and his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ervin; and two sisters, Dorothy Nelson and Marian Kruse.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 7, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Sunday, August 6, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
