Maxine Launderville
May 22, 1926 - July 10, 2017

Surrounded by her family, Maxine (Max) Launderville, age 91, passed from this earthly life on Monday, July 10, 2017, at her home. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family and friends carried her through her valiant fight with cancer.

Max was born on May 22, 1926, in Denison, Iowa, to Ed and Marie (Sheridan) Madsen. The second oldest of ten children, she grew up on farms near Havelock and Rembrandt, Iowa. She had a busy life, working hard taking care of her siblings, cooking, baking, washing, canning, and doing whatever needed doing. The family, always, reserved Sundays as a day of worship, meals of fried chicken and homemade ice cream, and family gatherings on the farm. Max attended high school at Lincoln Lee Country School and graduated on May 10, 1944. Growing up with eight brothers and a sister, she became a bit of a tomboy and loved playing catcher for the school softball team (tough position for a lefty).

After graduating from high school, she met her sweetheart, Lee Launderville, whom she married on June 15, 1948, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. They resided in Storm Lake where they were blessed with six children: Dennis, Dale, Kevin, Gary, Michelle, and Lori.

Max worked hard and faithfully cared for her family and friends. She loved to bake chocolate chip cookies, each of her children's favorite pie, and angel food cake for every birthday. Nonetheless, her sour cream chocolate cake and dill pickles became legendary. Max had a real zest for life, and nothing seemed to slow her down. She loved listening to Lawrence Welk and polka music, watching basketball, traveling the country on bus tours with Lee, playing 500 with the members of her card club, and attending her children's and grandchildren's school and sports events.

Max and Lee made a corporate move to Northville, Michigan, with Hy-grade. Halfway into retirement, they lived in Carroll for the better part of a decade. These moves provided adventure along the way, but eventually they returned to their roots in Storm Lake.

Max is survived by her children, Denny (Carleen) Launderville, of Alta, Iowa, Father Dale Launderville, O.S.B., of Saint John's Abbey of Collegeville, Minnesota, Kevin (Denise) Launderville, of Hudson, Iowa, Gary (Sandy) Launderville, of Lake Ozark, Missouri, Michelle (Roger) Nolan, of Estero, Florida, and Lori Launderville, of Florida; twenty grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; her brothers: Clarence, Bob, and Melvin Madsen; and her sister, Jean Madsen; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Maxine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lee; her parents, Ed and Marie Madsen; her brothers: Jerry, Ed, Jr., Dale, and Dick Madsen.

Max will always be remembered as a strong, energetic woman with a strong faith in God, fierce love of family, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

A Funeral Mass will be offered Friday, July 14, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Thursday, July 13, 2017, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
