Richard "Rick" Frommie
September 17, 1943 ~ April 13, 2017 (age 73)

Richard “Rick” L. Frommie, age 73, of Webb, Iowa, died on April 13, 2017, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital at Spencer, Iowa.

Richard Lamar Frommie, a son of Vernon and Bonnie (Burr) Frommie, was born in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, on September 17, 1943. He lived his youth in Sioux Rapids where he received his education and graduated from the Sioux Rapids High School with the Class of 1963. After serving his country in the United States Air Force, he was honorably discharged on March 4, 1964. He, then, furthered his education at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and the Kansas Law Enforcement Academy.

Previously married to Sharon Jelinek, he had had two children by her: Christopher James and Melinda Sue. After they divorced, he married Sharon (Lacey) Krohn. Rick’s law enforcement career began in Arnolds Park, Iowa, where he worked as a patrol officer. Later promoted, he became the Chief of Police. Next, Rick and Sharon resided in Chanute, Kansas, where he became a deputy and volunteer emergency responder with the Neosho County Sheriff. A professional truck driver as well, he worked for Silvey Refrigerated Carriers in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Ellsworth Trucking, Ruan Trucking, and Comfort Contractor, all in Chanute, Kansas. While living in Chanute, Rick served on the Planning and Zoning Commission, as a city commissioner, and as vice mayor. In addition, in Chanute, he joined the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.

Rick enjoyed working as a volunteer with the emergency crew at the Humboldt Kansas Speedway, exchanging memories with his many friends after returning home to Iowa to “retire.” In addition, he liked golfing, traveling, spending time with his grandkids and family, and working as a security officer at the Clay County Fair in Spencer, Iowa.

Those left to cherish his life and memories include his wife, Sharon, of Webb, Iowa, his two children: Christopher Frommie, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Melinda Frommie, of Schuyler, Nebraska, his grandchildren: Georgia Frommie, of Wahoo, Nebraska, and Ethan Frommie-Dunn and Landon Frommie, both of Schuyler, Nebraska, his brother, Vance (Elaine) Frommie, of Spencer, Iowa; his sister, Melissa (Robert) Bryson, of Aurora, Colorado, his sister-in-law, Jenny Mussulman, of Chanute, Kansas; his nephews and nieces: Josh (Lisa) Frommie, of Blue Earth, Minnesota, Stacey Anderson, of Spencer, Iowa, Justin Genson, of Norman, Oklahoma, Joe Bryson, of Norwalk, Connecticut, Charles Mussulman, of Wichita, Kansas, Craig (Anna) Mussulman. of Chanute, Kansas, Mark (Abbie Mussulman) Taylor, of Leawood, Kansas, Clay Mussulman, of Chanute, Kansas, Curt (Amy Mussulman) Koutelas, of Mission Hills, Kansas, and Jack (Lora) Mussulman) Webber, of Colwich, Kansas; as well as several great and great-great nieces and nephews and his many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Effie Burr and William (Bill) and Mary (Sylvester) Frommie; his parents, Vernon and Bonnie (Burr) Frommie; and his step-mother, Verva Frommie.

A Celebration of Life Reception will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Little Sioux Golf and Country Club in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
