Darreld Dewayne Bjorklund, age 80, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Center in Manson, Iowa.

Darreld Bjorklund, a son of Wayne and Vera (Martin) Bjorklund, was born in Albert City, Iowa, on February 17, 1937. Confirmed at the Mission Covenant Pentecostal Church in Marathon in 1952 and baptized there in 1959, he lived his youth in Albert City and attended Albert City High. Next, he continued his education at Western Iowa Tech where he received training as an electrician.

On June 23, 1956, Darreld married Bettie Witham at the Presbyterian Church in Fonda, Iowa. Eight children were born to their union: Dan, Randy, Rhonda, Duane, Kim, James, Mindy, and Tina. For the first few years of their marriage, Bettie and Darreld lived near Albert City, Iowa. They, however, spent most of their married life in Storm Lake, Iowa, where Darreld owned and operated a vacuum cleaner and sewing business. In 1998, they came to make their home in Albert City where they had resided since.

A member of the United Pentecostal Church in Marathon, Darreld served as a trustee. In addition to attending church, he enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage, gardening and watching sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, his favorites. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, however, were his pride and joy, and he cherished the time he could spend with them and the experiences they shared together.

Darreld’s life is honored and celebrated by his family which includes his children: Dan (Jane) Bjorklund, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Randy Bjorklund, of Albert City, Iowa, Rhonda Ralston, of Pocahontas, Iowa, Kim Jarvis, of Albert City, Iowa, James (Becky) Bjorklund, of Clarion, Iowa, and Mindy (Mike) Hackbarth, of Eagle Grove, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren with one more on the way; three brothers: Don Bjorklund, of Spencer, Iowa, Terry (Toni) Bjorklund, of Marathon, Iowa, and Ted (Connie) Bjorklund, of Spencer, Iowa; two sisters: Margie (Jim) Horst, of Spencer, Iowa, and Judy Williams, of Perry, Iowa; as well as by nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bettie, on April 29, 2013; his daughter, Tina Bjorklund; his son, Duane Bjorklund; his son-in-law, Richard Jarvis; and his brother, Arly Bjorklund.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 8, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Pentecostal Church in Marathon, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Wednesday, June 7, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is overseeing the arrangements.
