February 12, 1929 ~ February 5, 2017 (age 87)

Delean Miller, age 87, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at the Hawkeye Care Center in Sioux Rapids.

Delean Ann Haner, the youngest daughter of Erie and Irene (Beedle) Haner, was born in Logan, Iowa, on February 12, 1929. Farmers, her parents lived a few miles from Modale, Iowa. When Delean was three years old, her parents purchased a farm south of Woodbine, Iowa, where she attended country school through the eighth grade. She, then, enrolled at the Woodbine High School where she graduated with the Class of 1947. Next, she took classes to earn her Normal Training Teacher’s Certificate. In the fall of 1949, she became a country school teacher. She worked as a county school teacher in the Woodbine vicinity until January 1, 1950.

On her birthday, February 12, 1950, Delean married Clyde Miller of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Lourene and Mark. Clyde and Delean farmed in the Webb area for a few years following their wedding. Then, they purchased a home in Sioux Rapids where they resided for the next forty-seven years. Clyde passed away on July 5, 2012. Since March 6, 2015, Delean had made her home at the Hawkeye Care Center in Sioux Rapids.

A loving and devoted homemaker, wife, mom, grandma and great grandma, Delean did a great deal of sewing for her family throughout her life. Moreover, she enjoyed crocheting, playing Bingo, gardening, and caring for her flowers. At times, she worked as a substitute cook at the school and at the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids.

Those left to honor and cherish Delean’s life include her children: Lourene (Dick) Vail and Mark (Dena) Miller, all of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; her grandchildren: Amy Rozeboom, Justin (Molly) Vail, Matthew (Holly) Miller, and Becca (Kyle) Aronson; and fourteen great grandchildren; as well as other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde; and two sisters: Cleta Piercy Ehlers and Ines McCannon.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will follow in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place for one hour before the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is overseeing the arrangements.
