Robert W. Helmbrecht
November 17, 1970 - January 8, 2017

Robert W. Helmbrecht, age 46, of Cameron, Missouri, formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 8, 2017 in Cameron.

Robert was born on November 17, 1970, in Onawa, Iowa, to Chris and Vivian Helmbrecht. He grew up in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and graduated from Ames High School in Ames, Iowa, in 1988. Then, he found employment at IBP (currently known as Tyson) in Storm Lake, Iowa. There, he met Katie and started his own family when they had their daughter Amanda in 1992. He had a new place to call home.

To better himself and advance in his career, he relocated to Cameron, Missouri. There, he started working with Girton Propane in 1998 as a truck driver. Advancing, he became the sales/marketing director for the company. He dedicated his whole heart to the company and always remained grateful for the opportunities they provided for him. Indeed, not just an employee, he became a best friend for nearly twenty years.

Very much a people person, he could carry on a conversation with anybody about any topic. Because of his contagious smile, laugh, and sense of humor, people just craved his presence. Indeed, anyone needing someone to talk with about anything had, only, to turn to him.

Robert loved trucks, classic cars, and motorcycles. He loved showing off his Harley Davidson motorcycle in Storm Lake’s homecoming parades when his daughter, Amanda, was in high school. She became known as the cheerleader who rode behind her dad. No great singer, still, he knew every lyric to an Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, or Waylon Jennings song.

Nothing mattered more to Robert than his family. He, always, made sure they knew he loved them unconditionally. Indeed, he supported them in every way. Moreover, he considered the neighbors as family and felt pride and joy in their kids’ lives as well. He wanted everyone to be happy, which was no problem for those around him.

Robert was preceded in death by his brother, John Helmbrecht; his father Chris Helmbrecht; his grandparents, Willard and Verla Helmbrecht; and his uncle, George Schuck.

Robert is survived by his mother, Vivian Whitehill; his step-father, Wally Whitehill; his brothers, Tony Helmbrecht and Todd Uhl, his wife, Katie Helmbrecht; his daughter, Amanda Helmbrecht; his son-in-law, Niky Komvongsa, his grandson, Bentley Komvongsa; and an unborn grandchild; as well as by many brothers- and sisters-in-law; aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces; and nephews whom he loved more than life itself; and his dog, Harley. Robert, always, wanted the best for his family and found such joy in the special kind of love they shared with one another, which remains incomplete without him.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place for one hour before the service at the funeral home. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
