Barbara Jean Turpin
August 31, 1925 - December 30, 2016

Barbara Jean Turpin, age 91, of Alta, Iowa, passed away on December 30, 2016, at the Countryside Estates in Cherokee, Iowa.

A daughter of Lloyd and Dorothy (Cook) Elrod, Barbara Jean was born on August 31, 1925, in Monroe, Iowa. After graduating from Mingo High, she furthered her education at AIB and Simpson College. On January 21, 1948, she married Edwin L. Turpin in Graettinger, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with one daughter, Cathryn Jean.

A member of the Alta Methodist Church, Barbara served with the Susanne Wesley Circle and the Ladies Aid Society. A founding member of the Alta Golf and Country Club, she, also joined the Alta Library Board.

In her spare time, Barbara liked playing cards, especially bridge and 500. She had a passion for sewing and knitting and loved reading. She treasured her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Cathy, and her husband, Donald Fisher, of Alta, Iowa; her grandchildren and their spouses: Melinda and Vance Cords, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Barb and Mike Kelley, of Holstein, Iowa, and Laura and Steve Eastwood, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; her great grandchildren and their spouses: Amber Cords, of Cherokee, Iowa, Jamie and PJ Aquitania, of Hope Mills, North Carolina, Amy Cords, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Mikkal and Donald Kelley, of Holstein, Iowa, and Trent, Ryne, and Keaton Eastwood, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; her great-great grandchildren: Noah Aquitania and Kennedy and Emmett Eastwood; her brother and his wife, Phil and Mary Ann Elrod, of Ames, Iowa; and her sister and her husband, Linda and Gary Tett, of Euless, Texas; as well as nieces; nephews; extended family members; and friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Turpin; her parents, Lloyd and Dorothy Elrod; her parents-in-law: Elmer and Erna Turpin; her brothers and sisters-in-law: cJames and Virginia Elrod and Delmar and Mary Turpin.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow at a later date in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta. Visitation will take place for one hour before the service at the funeral Home. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
