Pauline Avis Sorenson, age 101, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, December 24, 2016, at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake.

A daughter of Lee and Olga (Nelson) Thorpe, Pauline was born on June 1, 1915, in Storm Lake. Baptized at the Baptist Church in Storm Lake, she attended school in Storm Lake, graduating from Storm Lake High School in 1933. Next, she married Jesse LeRoy Sorenson. Subsequently, they were blessed with one child, Jane Eugenia. An active member of the Church of Christ in Storm Lake until it closed, she enjoyed volunteering for various church activities. For twenty-six years, Pauline worked at the Deputy Sherriff’s Office of Buena Vista County. She, also, joined the VFW Auxiliary, the Buena Vista Historical Society, and the Iowa State Sheriffs’ and Deputies’ Association.

Over the last century, Pauline became an avid Atlanta Braves, Iowa State Cyclones, and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. She enjoyed watching the Price is Right and creating May baskets. In 2004, she created and delivered fifty-seven baskets, a personal record. Most of all, however, she had a deep love for her family, especially for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren: Vicki (Stephen) Emch, of Lakewood, Colorado, Christina (Tim) Stiles, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Rebecca (Chuck) Arett, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and her great grandchildren: Brett (Sara) Stiles, of Ankeny, Iowa, Megan (Andrew) Augustyniak, of Chicago, Illinois, and Jared and Nick Arett, of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse; her daughter, Jane Eugenia Duffy; her brother, Richard Lee Thorpe; her sister, Katherine Olga McDiarmid; and her grandson, James Kuzniar.

Memorial services will be held Friday, December 30, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake.
